ID this??

Sorry i dont have a photo i didnt have time to take one

in my yard today when i was moving stuff to put into the skip bin i lifted a old brick and underneath it there was this hole, and i must have disturbed something because it started moving rather fast, it wasnt a hole that comes up it was like a verticle thing that i could then see this thing slithering along

it didnt have scales
it was greyish
atleast 1and a half cm thick
and then when it came to the end of it i saw its tail was rounded not pointy and rather red

it would have ATLEAST been a ft and a half long

i have never seen anything like it before, i get loads of beetles etc in my yard i thought it could be some giant worm but it just seemed like it was too big and fast and wierd....

Not a clue - though a nice cryptic puzzle - the red tail is throwing me...

Was it a blind snake by chance?

nah i think it was just one of the local girrafes

and no it wasnt a riddle im confused as hell as what it could have been no way was it a snake tho, only thing i can think is the worlds largest worm because it doesnt have any features of a snake and it wasnt a leggless lizard because of its skin i wish i had a video camera with me but it was gone in about 4 seconds

I've seen blindsnakes before and they seem to vary a lot - and eassily confused with giant worms. Would be very cool if that was what you saw.

Best bet is to google info on the blindsnakes of Australia and see if one comes close to your visual description.

Do you get bandy bandys in your area? bandy bandys feed on blind snakes. I think most blind snakes can exude a secretion - sort of pepperminty smell if they're handled. Maybe bandy bandys like the fresh breath after taste of blind snakes.

Good luck.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers

Slim

I have a reptile book of aus ill go have a look now and look at the ones that are found in s.a and see if i can id it, but at 1st i just gathered it wasnt a snake because i couldnt see scales etc, i dont no if it was exactally 4 seconds but it wasnt like it took a few minutes, within a few seconds it had dissapeared i watched its body go past and i saw its tail at the end but never saw the start of it
