Hey,

Im setting up for a couple of beardies,
few quick questions.

I have 2 2ft tanks to choose from one that i had my juvie blue tongues inand one that i kept fish in which one should i use?.
Whats the best way to clean the tank?
What do i need other than lighting?
Is it ok to keep juvies on red desert sand?
Does anyone have any pics of their beardies and setups? ( any ages)

Hey mate, good luck with the set up.

I have pics on another thread.

As for cleaning the tank, i find using "Sellies, Sugar Soap" for cleaning grime, then "AJAX, lavender and citrus" supposed to kill 99.9% of germs.

And then a REALLY good wash out.

Visit Facebook Profile
you would some of the algae and stuff that was good for the fish might not be so great for the reptile =) use either but clean em first

I assume you want to know how to clean the tank before you put the beardies in, not once they are in there? Clean it with bleach diluted 1:10 with warm water, hose it out and let it dry for a few days.
You need heating.
It should be, just keep an eye on how much they ingest, sand can cause impaction. I kept mine on paper.
No, I don't keep them.

I would avoid the highly toxix cleaning agents, use F10, its safe and does the job.

I would stick away from the red desert sand, it looks great but is so messy especially when they walk through the water bowl it sticks to them and thier legs go all red. if your gonna use sand use the washed sand from bunnings. I only have sand in one of my enclosures and that has adults in it. best to keep it simple for juvies. have a good basking spot and places to hide I will try and take some pics of some of my set ups tonight. give the tank a good clean any cleaner is fine as long as it is rinsed very well and no residue remains. keep it simple if yoour worried and use hot water and a scrubbing brush. I use Lino (vinyl flooring ) on the floor in one of my enclosures its great as its easy to clean. hope this helps mate.

thanx guys. i think i'll stay away from the sand atleast until they are older. What else is there to use that is safe, looks good and is easy to clean. How much is F10? or can I just give it a good scrub?

Cam, I'm also setting up a cage for baby beardies and have put breeders choice cat litter.
However this is my first time with beardies so if you find any info to warn against this, I'd like to know too.
Cheers
PS Where you getting your beardies from?
