hey there..
we all know what the herp laws are like here in aus, particually in queensland..
and i have been getting really paranoid im gonna get in trouble for herping..
like i mean,i take a snake hook and walk around with it,cause when i up turn boards etc.. i use it to rake the ground and stuff, ive never used it on a snake yet..
and i normally wear work wear when i go,so i guess it could appear like im a park ranger,as the colour of my shirt is khaki, but i only wear it cause ive wrecked heaps of good clothes herping..
what are everyones thoughts on bring a snake hook? and carrying it in hand? would i get in trouble

Not familiar with the herp laws of QLD, sorry, but unless u were a licensed taker in WA u mite get busted. I don't see how u wld be tho, unless they actually found you with herps on you, or back at ur place.

It's illegal to interfere with reptiles in any way at all, you can't even photograph them without a permit. Just don't get caught..

If you are just walking around with a hook , i cant see how they can do a thing ...its not illegal to carry a hook ....if you are handling snakes thats a different story .

You can take pics if you're walking along the track and spot something in front of you. But you can't interfere with it in anyway (i.e. you can't pick it up and move it to a more suitable location, you can't harrass it to invoke a defensive display, you can't lift rocks and logs looking for specimens to photograph etc etc). In saying that however, most of us still do it or have done it, and will continue to do so, but always with the risk of copping a fine if caught.
