Question Incubator Question

Hi, well I have my incubator just about finished and can hopefully transfer these beardie eggs over, just have to put the fan in. I have one actually no two questions.

We put some silicone in the incubator and the smell even though it was done over a week ago is still kinda in there when you close the door and open it. So going of grandma's old trick I put a tub of vinegar in there (to get rid of the smell). Well now I have a incubator that stinks of vinegar. I've opened the incubator up, got a big fan blowing at it to try and get rid of the smell. But what I want to know will this effect the eggs at all (the smell that is?).

My other question is I have one of the dual thermometer's that also measures humidity and inside and outside temperatures. For some reason though when you push the button to measure inside the incubator it's actually reading outside, and visa versa (weird). I have the probe inside the fridge so not sure what's going on (any help would be great).

Thanks

I don't think its vinegar that you use and am sure its vanilla extract on a small dish. Try that and it should get rid of the vinegar smell. You don't have eggs in there at the moment I presume? Give the vanilla a go and then leave the door open a bit to air it out.

I never use those (made in china) plastic thermometers. Total garbage in my opinion. Toss it out the window

Get a few of these from the Herp Shop for $30each There the ones I use and they are good quality.

Mini Hygro Thermometer
Displays temperature and humidity simultaneously on a clear, uncluttered screen.
Can be free standing or wall mounted. Celcius or Fahrenheit selectable by switch
Measures 56mm W x 53mm H x 20mm D. Range: Temperature -10C (+14F) to +50C (+122F) Humidity 20% to 90% Accuracy: Temperature +/-1C Humidity +/- 5%

Not sure that you should be using Vinegar or Vanilla.....

I am almost sure its Bi-Carb soda that will take away smells... Thats what you put in the bottom of your fridge to remove any strange fridge smells.....

I to have a Hygro/Temp gauge...and yes... where the display part is, is where the hygro sensor is.... So if your going to use it you will have to place it inside the Incubator...

Hope that helps....

Thanks for that. Yes actually all three of them things you mentioned can be used. Vinagar in a tub in any room can remove the smell of a lot of things including vomit, smoke, pet smells etc. And yes your right so can bi carb soda and vanilla (I just didn't have any of the other two). The mistake was the fridge door should of been left open while the vinigar was in there and someone shut it. Thanks for the info anyhow, yes I will give both the bi carb and vanilla a go tommorow when I can get some (the fridge is now open airing out some more). My main question was will the smell affect eggs? (and no there's none in there yet)
