I have just pick up a coastal carpet off the side of the road which had been hit by a car. When I first pick it up about a table spoon of blood came out of its mouth. No major external damage, it apears to have been run over in the neck area, head and abdomen apear to be fine. I left it for an hour or so to calm down before attempting to get it out of the trailer unit I put it in, the bleeding apears to have stopped and it apears to be fit and well.
Have many out there seen them recover from this and would it be any good as a pet if so, or am I better off returning it to its local enviroment?
Intend on taking it to australia zoo wildlife warriors in the morning.

You can't take them from the wild without the apropriate license(spelling?) taking it to the Zoo would be the best thing in the world. Good luck, let us know how it goes.!! Good on you for caring.

G'day austcold,
The vast majority of the time, snakes that have been hit by cars do not recover. Due to their slow metabolism it can take hours, days, even months before the eventually succumb to their injuries.
On the contrary, however, we do have a young adult female Eastern Brown here, who appears to have been hit by a car and has been thriving for almost a year in captivity now. She was caught in SA (where it is legal for snake catchers to keep any Browns they catch), and despitve having a bit of a bad attitude, she does really well. She has some impressive scars, and was run over just behind her head, but there are no broken bones.
If he doesn't appear to be doing well, it would be better for him to be put out of his misery.
Good luck,
Jonno

Incidently, I don't recommend that recreational reptile keepers do this, as any bugs/disease/virii they have on themselves from their own collections can be passed to wild reptiles and then back out to the wild populations, all in the name of doing a wild herp a favour. It's a favour of the worst sort.

Thats alright then LOL. I know you can pick them up and get them to help. I suppose I need to make myself crystal clear on everything I say on this site.

We will be taking it to WW in the morning and no problems returning them back in the wild. It was only considered due to injuries and that its local enviroment is scheduled to become a dam.
Thanks for the feedback.
