is a brick ok?

hiya

well i believe its ok im just after some other opinions

as one of my pythons (male atherton Placido) has now got "milky" eyes he has edges from hides in there but i was wondering would a brick be ok?
A clean one either broken in half sort of thing or a full one with a reasonable amount of ruff edges just to help his shed as im worried that the hides and other things in there may not be ruff enough for him to rub along

also i have increased his humidity slightly as well ( i moved the water bowl closer to the heat and am now keeping a bit more water in there)

any other suggestions are welcome

im just worried about him having problems with shedding thats all

thanks
Jeramie

RE: is a brick ok?

It can't hurt, a brick, branch or rough stone, anything. Just clean it first and make sure it can't fall and crush your poor snake (not that I think you would, a brick leaning against the wall would be asking for trouble)

RE: is a brick ok?

i got a bit of a branch in there so it can climb up off the ground a bit

also do you think the snake would rather the brick be somewhat warm or cold as i was thinking of putting it more on the warmside of the cage (as i know i dont like being warm then walking on a cold floor)

RE: is a brick ok?

I'd say warm, it might like to use it as a basking spot but if you have a branch that should be enough, humidity is more important that rough surfaces I've found, with the water bowl in the warm end it should be fine.
One trick I was told was to get a towel or face washer (depending on tank size) and wet it with hot water then lay it over the tank (assuming you have a lot of ventilation on the top), this will up the humidity a lot. Wet it again every few hours when you're home but don't worry most of the time, I've only ever done it when they're actually having problems.

Am I just really lucky living in Brisbane, or is keeping pythons such a science in the colder parts of the country? :

Junglerob - Pretty much yes . Hehe, I have only kept animals from queensland in queensland so I haven't had to worry too much but a bredli in Melbourne may need some extra help with stuff sometime due to it being such different environments (humidity, day/night temps and such).

RE: Re: RE: is a brick ok?

i'm glad i live in nth qld, my snakes shed themselves,

it's funny to see the difference in doing things down south as to what i do up nth, thats why it's good to get advice from keepers that live close to you,

but to answer your question, i wouldn't worry to much about extra humidity unless it has troubles, just adding the extra water and putting it down the hot end should be ok, just make sure you don't end up heating up the water to much, the brick is ok, but you will find most likely it will use the branch,

cheers,
steve.........
