Is it Normal?

For a cooling Coastal to move around much in the enclosure, and to also be soaking in the water bowl.? We've noticed our Brissie Coastal moving around a fair bit in the last few days, and also found him sitting in his water bowl again this morning. I must say that the nights have been warmer than usual lately. Cheryl

RE: Is it Normal?

can be normal... what temps are you cooling at? strange to be soaking if you are cooling, but depends on temps / pre shed.. Just keep mites in mind.

RE: Is it Normal?

18C to 22C. Is that too warm for him Craig? Fuscus isn't here at the moment to answer our questions re his ex Coastal. He's off picking Mandies. I'll get Dave to check him for mites. What should we be looking for please? His eyes don't look cloudy, so don't think he is going to shed? Will go back into our Keeping Carpet Pythons book and learn a bit more, me thinks. Cheers Chezza

RE: Is it Normal?

Mites will be tiny black things that are no bigger than a grain of sand Chez, and if you check around his eyes (you'll have to restrain his head for a good look) thats where they usually are visible. But you can put him on white butcher paper and you will see the black specks after a few hours, but im pretty sure if you have some good eyes in god light, you should be able to see them if they are there.

RE: Is it Normal?

You can also look for mites at the bottom of the water dish.

RE: Is it Normal?

one of my coastals is super active atm, she is usually a very quiet girl, but now she is on the go all the time. She shares her enclosure with another yearling and she is under the fake grass and has not come out for about 2 weeks, yes she snake is still alive . They have been cooling for about a month.

My Diamonds are quiet, other coastals are quiet, one coastal is wide awake and on the move.....WHY????

Other snakes are northern species are worm and doing fine.

RE: Is it Normal?

We must remember that these snakes don't hibernate they merely slow down over the winter, if the days and/or nights are warmer it can lead to more activity.

RE: Is it Normal?

Her days are shorter, her temps are colder, and her house mate has got the hint >hiding under the grass for days on end, yet she runs around like she has her own stash of speed.

????????? maybe she is horny, but she aint getting any till it wams up a bit and I think shes is a bit young. not to mention she is gonna get some Syndney cold in a week when I move back, that will slow her down.

RE: Is it Normal?

If it's not mites; one reason it may be soaking in the water bowl, is that in the water bowl, it's a stable temperature......slow temp fluctuation.
