I have just looked at a jungle python that I am considering buying. I would like some info and advice before I go ahead. It is about 1 metre in length and approx 13 months old, should it be colouring up by now because it still has a very brown look to the yellow, I saw pic of the mum and she is a strong gold colour and that is the colour I would prefer. Also it is a bit snappy when you put your hand in to get it out of it's enclosure but it is very active but not striking once it is out. will it settle down with time, the owner is feeding it in the tank so I think that may be some of the problem, I usually feed my spotted in a separate container. I have heard that they are a bit difficult until they are 12 months so I dont know if this is still going to improve in colour and temperament or is this the way it will stay. Is there anything special with jungles that I should be looking for or know first? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers Tracy

its the second owner so he is not to sure of the age, do you think at 1 metre it is fully coloured or still going to change?

I bought a clutch of jungles from a guy getting out of keeping snakes, several of them were nice and yellow within a year, but 2 were very dull and 1 has no yellow at all, if the animal is not very yellow at the size its at now, i dont think it ever will be.

It all comes down to the quality of the animal, I sold the not very coloured ones for $300 and kept the others. were the brightest yellow and jet black jungles can be anything up to $2000, if you want good breading stock you need to pay the dollars, all my jungles are snappy accept 2 that are about 5 years old, I think the sub adults enjoy inflicting pain.

It's impossible to tell how a Jungle is going to turn out and at just over a year old it may not colour up for another year or even more. A metre is about right for a well fed yearling. Like I say it is impossible to give advice other than if you like the look of the snake and you can find out something about it's lineage than buy it.

How big do they grow??
How hard are they to look after??
I already have the bug...lol....I have owned a snake for almost a week and im already looking for a second..lol
They are just beautiful.
Are they ever availiable to buy as hatchies in the breeding season?? How much??
Im already planing on building a nice wooden enclosure for my second, and I really want a stunning looking snake.

Jungles are reknown for being snappy, but like with every person and every snake, it depends on the individual.
They get to about 6 foot
They're just as easy (or hard) as any other carpet to look after (of course, depending on the individual).
Now is a good time to start looking for a hatchling as they're just poking their heads out of their eggs now. Depending on quality and demand/supply they can go for as little as $250 all the way up to $1000 or so for a hatchling. Adults can go for more depending on looks and whether they are proven breeders.
If you get a good looker, jungles are gorgeous!

jugles tame down very easy you just need to resist there bites.....i mean i can kiss mine on the head now and it wont even flinch....
but with your new one make sure it is a jungle ....if it has a smudged head pattern its not jungle and if it doest have a black line through the eye to the snout to the other its problt not a pure jungle
becouse at 13 minths it should be showing signes of colour ....unless it is just a very dull one.
\just be sure its pure bred ...just becouse they show a picture of the parents doesnt mean it pure pred (they could be pictures of any snake ??? who knows)
i say all this becouse i was sold a hatchling "jungle" when i was a novis snake keeper and it turned out to be a regular coastal ..... and i payed $350 for it ......ANNOYING !!!!!!
so dont get ripped of .... and if you want a really bright one get it from a good breeder ... and see if you can view the parents to be sure :0
hope this helps!....goodluck
