Olive there are no wild vitties in western sydney, they are barbata. Vitties occur west of the great divide. As for keeping barbata outside in western sydney (which is where I am also) they are fine as long as they have a nice dry place to go and have approx 8 hours of sun a day with shaded parts also
hope that helps

| Actually, further west than that.
Tamworth has barbattas.

Actually Vitticeps do quite well outdoors along the coast. I have mates in Sydney and Wollongong who keep their vitticeps outdoors all year round and none ever die. They actually do better outdoors than barbata, which are local.

We have Barbata outside in an outdoor pit, it must have good drainage and they must be able to get dry and have shade as well as sun. As they were growing up we kept them indoors knowing that we were building this pit. They just hardly did anything inside as soon as we put them outside they were a different animal. It took about an hour and they were behaving like they should be in the wild. It was fantastic to watch and they have never looked back.

yeah id say that west sydney is a fine climate for them, it gets lovely and arid in the summer and not too cold in the winter. make sure they have a nice big warm dry cave though mate.

| Not too cold in Winter?????
I have to break the ice off my windshield in the morning in Winter!
I wouldn't have a Vitty outside in western Sydney in Winter without some kind of supplemental heating.

How far west are you talking, i lived in Merrylands for 4 years and it never went below about 15 degrees.....then again, i guess thats pretty cold, and im sure they would have thought about supp heating for winter anyway, i dont think anywhere on the east coast can have an outdoor pit of anything through winter without it.
