Keeping Shinglebacks and Beardies outside in SA?

Hi everyone!

Just wondering how I would go keeping these lizards together outside here in SA?

Does anyone have any pics of outdoor enclosures and also how they should be made?

Do youhave to make the fence go into the ground much etc?

I would like ot house my beardie outside and perhaps get some shinglebacks sometime later on.

My beardie is outside every day when the weather allows and he loves it, but it's just a day cage, I would like something more permanent for him.

Thanks for any advice and pics!!!

Kerri

Hi Kerri,
You can keep both species outside and they should both do well in an outdoor enclosure in SA.
It is best to make an enclosure out of a smooth material so they can't climb it or rub noses and have it extending about 40cm below ground level, even though gravid female beardies are the only ones likely to dig its better to be safe than sorry.
Chuck some plants in for a cool shady spot and make sure its cat and bird proof.

EDIT: Forgot to add: make sure they have a sleeping area that always stays completely dry, beardies will often sleep in the open but shinglebacks will curl up under some leaves or a log which should be dry to avoid health problems.

Thanks for the info guys!!!

The aviary is 3.2m x 2.5m so I think there will be plenty of room for a few of them.

I'll post pick when it's all finished tho!

So a central beardie will be ok here in SA all year round outside?? That's good, I am going to get him a girlfriend! hehehehe

Thanks again for the info!!

Kerri
