mdf, heated at the moment by blacklights, as the other globes are to long for the cages around the fittings.

temps are fine, but a lot of heat is escaping out the front through the glass, was just hoping someone had iseas on keeping it in, hopefully without obscuring the view.

Most of the heat goes up . Feel the top , it gets very hot . You can keep heat in with something on top . I use a folded blanket , makes a huge diference . Also lose a lot if vents are too big or too high .

You may find that its a good thing and quite beneficial to your snake that heat is escaping throught the glass. Much better than a build-up of heat that doesnt allow for a proper cool end.

I have a glass tank with polystyrene panels on three faces of the tank. The panels are painted in desert colours and make the tank look good and also insultate. At night, at the heated end of the tank, I place a square of polystyrene over the glass front – this leaves half of the front glass losing heat. Peg board is on the top. This has worked well for years.

MDF is not a good insulator either. If a panel is warm on the outside then it's propably losing lots of heat.
