kids info

Does anyone know of any sites or articles with general Australian python information for kids.

I'm taking some of our pythons to my kids school next week & would appreciate the help.

TIA !

I say do it. If one of the kids takes a shine to snakes and convinces their parent not to use the old shovel method on their next visitor, it was worth it.

It will just be in the classrooms of MY children. The kids won't be handling the snakes.

The principal has given permission & given that last year when my daughter was in kindergarten a friend of hers proudly brought the tail of a diamond her dad had killed over the weekend ,I think the pros outweigh the cons.

I have a background in youth work & public speaking & also think I have a basic grasp on what to talk about. Just thought there might be somewhere I could check if there's any stuff I should add. I'm not trying to take a job away from the pros.

My kids are always talking about the snakes at school & one of my eldest boys friends has just got his first herp.

If NPWS have a problem they certainly have their priorities all wrong.

i must agree with simon, as much as id love to share some of my snakes with my sons classroom in a 'look but dont touch' kinda way, im still wary of the legal issues and wont risk it. where as on the other hand, his friends can certainly come over and have a look. I do understand totally where your coming from though but id ere on the side of caution.

I think it would be great to do something like this, start now with the children and hopefully try to create a generation that can start to understand and appreciate snakes better.Teach this generation from the start that you do not have to kill a snake in you yard just leave it alone and call someone who can come and collect it for relocation. It needs to be done more than it already is,because teachers don't teach it.
But of course really at this point I would leave it to the ppl who are fully licenced to do so.
It's not worth the crap you may get into with the big guns.

Maybe just have your kids enivite

Jeff Hardy has state in email discourse that there is really no problem with taking your animals to your kids school and talking about them.
To be sure I would ring them and explain the situation. If policy interpretation has changed then so be it. I recently took some of my animals to my kids preschool.
They have someone come in once a year and do a reptile show and now the kids are really excited about it.

Jesus, some of you guys are uptight. Take the freakin' snakes to your kids class. In answer to your question, I don't know of any sites geared toward kids specifically. Sorry. Maybe someone else knows of some.

I was at an event in Sth Sydney a while back and the Council demanded that they be named specifically in our PL insurance on the day. There where around 250 other participants.
If we had complied that would have meant that on the day the insurance brokers had to offlaod $25billion in insurance. Nothing happened.

A few tears ago, I would of said go for it.
The way things are now with Public Liability getting out of control and becoming more and more like the US, it's simply not worth the risk.
At our public display in January, Jeff Hardys instructions were very clear. We were not allowed to take any snakes out of enclosures and the public had to be 4ft away from the cages.
The times, they are a changin.
