I'm sure you could organise something with NPWS if you aren't going to let the kids handle the animals.
this site might have something for you. www.snakeshow.net

Simon is correct. To take any reptiles to any public display for educational purposes you need a exhibitors licence. NPWS in NSW have no power to grant permission to take any animals to your kids schools.
All exhibited animals are controlled by the NSW Dept of Agriculture. You must have a current exhibitors licence and follow the very tight rules when exhibiting. You must also have a current Public Liability cover for 10 million dollars.
If some parent takes their snakes to their kids school they are definately breaking the law. And god forbid, if something did go wrong while they were doing it the poo would hit the fan.
Kids should be taught at the school level about our reptiles. They grow up with a newfound respect of these great animals. But do not make the mistake of doing it illegally. Have your kids school book a licenced exhibitor to do a show. They learn far more from a professional show then any parent could ever teach.

Bob,
Seriously though what is invovled in getting an exhibitors licence. I hope It's a little more stringent than a keepers licence. I'm scared to ask but what is the ball park for 10 million worth of PL.
Do you do primary schools ? |

Its a little bit more involved than a NPWS Reptiles keepers licence.
To start you have to complete about a 40 page application form answering a huge amount of questions. You must prove your experience to exhibit reptiles. If you have little or no experience with certain reptiles(venomous snakes, crocs or large monitors) then you cant have them.
You must have the public liability insurance that clearly covers any accident with ANY of your animals in NSW. This can cost between $4000 to $6000. As Simon wrote the regs state 2 million cover, but all Schools, Shopping Centres and Agric Shows require that you have 10 million.
You must follow very strict rules when displaying , travelling and even maintaining at home. There is heaps of paper work(monthly itinaries, movement forms to acquire or dispose of any animal, record books etc).
You must pass an inspection of your housing where the animals reside, plus of your display set up.
You must pass an inspection of one of your shows every 2 years or so.
And to exhibit in SCHOOLS, you need to be authorised by the NSW Education Dept every 2 years. This happens by doing a show in front of a panel of school principals who judge the relevant educational points of your show. If not up to scratch they will not pass you.
As you can appreciate, us exhibitors pay an awlfull lot of money and have to follow strick rules to educate the public.
