hi everyone i bought my first knob tail gecko baby last week, and i am just wondering what other people use for substrate, i have him/her on washed beach sand, thats what i was told to keep it on from the person i bought it from, but i have noticed that it doesnt hold its shape when the gecko digs just curious to see what other people keep there geckos on and if they are experiencing the same problem. he has hides at both the warm and cool ends so he can hide, will this be enough for him/her or should he/she be able to dig.
thanks in advance for any replies i do get.

Red desert sand, holds burrows really well but will go dry as a bone specially with say a heat cord and make it pretty hard for the gecks to dig at it. I don't have any heat at the moment but use a overhead lamp anyway which work pretty well, i just mix in a good amount of water every couple of weeks so that the sand is nice and damp (not muddy) so they can have a good dig around and make some new burrows. it is a bit of a pain imo but o well keeps them happy, wouldn't mind giving just and inch or so of washed white sand a go, figured it would be alot less hassle |

I use the white washed sand , i keep it moist with a spray bottle and the knobbies build some really big burrows and the sand holds them well.
