Local Bluies

These live in my parents garden. They were captured because I was removing some fire hazzards and didn't want to step in them. The big girl huffed and puffed and generally complained. She is an exceptional example of the species. They have since been released

great pics fuscus, the color variation on the eastern bluies has always fascinated me,i rescued a few here as well as bloched but the
patterns and colors never cease to amaze me,,on another tack , do you think eastern bluies are less flighty than blotched,,the blotchies always seem to stamp their authority over easterns when they are kept together??
totally different personalities it seems..

Great pics, the colour variation is quite amazing.
snakeman - I kept a few easterns with my blotchies at one stage and they lived normally together although the blotchies were a bit more dominant when they were feeding. I've got enough variation in personalities with my blotchies but they are a bit different to easterns.

Fantastic shots there Fuscus, she certainly wasn't shy about showing her feelings was she? Bluies are slowly growing on me, Kris has handsome boy who's very placid and almost seems to always be half asleep.

Nice specimens & pics Fuscus
That big girl sure is a beauty. I love the pale grey type with chocolate brown bands.
The little male is interesting too! Very caramel

So it seems you have the distinctly grey type & brown type living side by side in the one population, just as we have in Sydney.
It's interesting that the two colour variants can remain so distinct within one population.
Individuals are generally one or the other, with very few in between.

 I wonder if one type of colouration is dominant over the other ?

 Another interesting thing is that Tiliqua s. scincoides in northern NSW & QLD tend to have 4-5 body bands & Sydney specimens have 6 or 7 bands before the hind legs.

Also, the black temporal streak is distinct in Sydney specimens but becomes obscure in the sub-tropical ones. Becoming absent in the tropics.

You've gotta love the good old Aussie Bluey.
