Looks like trouble is brewing in my area for herp hobbyists. Locals and council vs state government...could get ugly... http://www.gcbulletin.com.au/news/news.htm#4976

Thats Unreal, an airconditioned rat shed!
Dawn Crichlow sounds a right one! "Wouldnt be able to sleep at night"- fair dinkum.
"Rats are like Ibis" - the rats are in maintained cages - big difference.
Typical politician and media supporting the percieved majority.

I must confess, having been in that shed many times, the smell can be something you would not believe... no words can describe it...
But as for the snakes, that's just crap. They're all caged and well kept. Besides which, it conveniently fails to mention that probably 45 of those 60 snakes are young hatchlings.
And how's that crap about "It's a laughable situation. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing there's 100 rats and snakes next door." There'd be a great many people living on the Gold Coast, who I'm willing to bet have pythons in their roof, or in their street living with people like me, and they are none the wiser.

I don't think I would like someone breeding rats so close to my bedroom either.A man's home is his castle as they say and you can't blame the neighbours about complaining about the smell.
After a while in the hobby it is easy to forget that there are a lot of people out there who do not like snakes. We are the minority and most ppl would not like the idea of living next to 100 snakes.

I remember Dawn "Kill Ibis" Crichlow, and would have hoped that she had disappeared up her rear office by now. Lets hope this is not her new vendetta as she is a horrible vindictive politician who hates animals, from and area not renowned for quality politicians

Yeah Mel, I happened to watch it on tele and was wondering if it was the same one.
They said it was Government approved and mentioned him having about 40 rats and 65 snakes. |

Mice certainly do, which is why I switched from mice to rats. However, rats stink too, unless you're prepared to clean their cages almost daily. I used to keep mine in the garage, until the car started to stink of rats! Now I just use frozen! :-)

Given the price of rats from the rodent rancher, I really can't see why you would bother to grow your own, exspecially if they make your car smell.
