missing

I also dont understand why so called exspearenced keepers keep houseing pythons together.Pythons are solitary creatures in the wild ! and i know sometimes through lack of cage space some keepers need to house pythons together. If you dont have a spare cage. You take the risk of loseing a valuble animal and shouldnt have it in the first place.Again inexspearence! Not only do you chance loseing the python .You also lesson your chances of a secsesful breeding.I agree with the Biguy on this matter.and if one has been eaten by the other. You know straight away it is an unmistakeable sight.Theres no I think one was eaten?I myself have learnt the hard way over the years! When one python eats another cage mate its something you know at first sight and usualy you lose both i have found in the past because the one eaten is easy to see in the body of the other it forms in a consatina like formation and can be seen very easy by looking at the ventral surface of the one who has done the eating. It is unmistakeable. For at least the first 48 hours if it is still alive by then usualy the eater has its stomach streched that much they useualy try to regergatate and die trying atleast that is what has happened in my exspearence in my early years.Especialy when both pythons are of equal size. And yes its a mistake YOU NEVER MAKE TWICE and as for saying you didnt have cage space.I beleave only unprepared inexspearenced keepers should have the right to say they didnt have the space because all exspearenced keepers should at least have a quarenteen cage available at all times. But every keeper has to make there own mistakes and you can give some people the right advice but 9 out of 10 times they take no notice. And will normaly do the opisate shane but I feel for you because i wouldnt wish what has happened to you to my worst enemy regards SHANE

Bob, you told me once a while back when I contacted you on a matter and asking your advice that you keep your breeding Stimsoni together year round.
So are there exceptions to the rule?

I never said I was experienced, as a matter of fact I have stated more than once in my posts that my husband and I are quite new to all of this. And going by your description of a snake that has just eaten another, Shane, then I would have to say this has not happened. The other childrens didn't look any different to normal except for looking a bit fatter than usual. He looked like he had just eaten a few small mice. He is also just about to shed which could also explain his reluctance to eat his meal yesterday. There is still a very good chance that the missing python has escaped.
I have done a search and all discussions here about housing snakes together raise an arguement for both sides so a newer person like myself would not come to any conclusion on whats best.
I have learnt the hard way, even though we are still not positive this is what has occured.
And just for the record, The Pet Shop we bought them from told us they would be fine housed together. This is just another reason why this area needs a store specialising in reptiles. The Pet Shops don't know diddly squat.

Unfortunately Bouncer, from what Vic members tell us, petshops with herps mostly still know diddly squat. Best to stick with the advice of A breeder directly, most petshops seem to have the "all our pets are flushable/disposable" mentality, i.e "we just sell em lady, how should I know"

P.s. I hope you find it, hatchys have an uncanny ability to fit in the smallest places, maybe theres hope yet.

We've looked everywhere Angel. Going by the fact that the cat nor the dog have dragged her inside, I think, if she is here, she may be inside something. Curled up up inside the fridge or something. We've looked and we're still keeping our fingers and toes crossed.

If it's any consolation to you, when I got back from holidays I was cleaning the cage of one of my snakes and left the door open for about 15 seconds while I took some stuff to the laundry to drop it in the tub. I assumed she was in her hide, but when I took it out to clean it, she was no-where to be found! Panic time. I searched EVERYWHERE (I thought) but couldn't find her. Left traps out, but no go. After about 5 days, I was certain she was gone (sob!).

The next night, Mazgal yelled our for me to come upstairs. There she was, crawling out from behind the computer!

Bear in mind that they can squeeze into impossibly small spaces!

So... moral of the story is, don't give up yet! As someone else said, make sure that all exits from the house are blocked - it may turn up yet! Hope so, anyway!

Sad news, Hubby found her this morning. She was on the road at the corner when he took the kids to school.
