Making an oudoor enclosure

Hello, My friend and i are making an out door enclosure for shinglebacks, blue tongues, bearded dragons and turtles.

It is 6.5 m X 3m and we have put up the framework, weed mat and had soil layed. The walls are only 3ft high and the sides are going to be small chicken wire.

We are unsure what to put on top of the walls to stop the beardies or whatever from climbing out. We where discussing putting a lip or somthing facing inwards or an upside down cutter on the wall but we are still unsure. We need somthing cost effective.

We are also making a 2mx2m pond for some turtles. My dad has organized to have 2 survalance cameras installed for a good price which is good for the future. I don't have to pay for them though.

We might put pics up soon of what we have done so far.

Any ideas would be good.

Bird netting could get the reptiles tangled up and injured, I would suggest you use something smooth for the sides so they can't climb up it and there is no risk of nose rubbing and then just cover the top with chicken wire or something to keep predators out.
Adult shinglebacks should do fine outside all year round provided a large portion of the enclosure is kept dry and they have plenty of dry areas to sleep, but I would keep any under 2yrs of age inside.
Look forward to some pics.

Most of the shinglebacks will stay out there all year round. I don't want any sort of roof, bird netting etc.. We have dogs to keep the predators out and i have only ever seen one bird of prey. Pictures later.

you could use perspex or maybe corflute (like real estate signs) to stop them climbing up the wire and over the fence,

I have my snakes in a tent outside... the pythons love it, even during the direct sun it has pannels stiched onto it for shade, i have a dip in the ground under the tent so when the tent gets rained on the dip fills into a dam allowing the snakes to drink/swim... i got the idea from those mesh enclosures from the pet shop

Birds of prey will also necessarily include any of the kingfisher family, and also magpies or currawongs. All of these guys love lizard, and would go nuts for you fellas.

If you're not covering it, make sure there are plenty of areas that anything you have in there will be able to hide from airborne attack.

Prevention is far better than cure

There will be lots of hiding places and lots of native grass and plants for them to hide under. Along with the dogs there should be no probem

lovemypiggy : Its just for my Longnecks they seem to like it out there. Im thinking of adding some blue tongues.

Dragon75 : lol thats me was a fun day as I mixed all the cement because the pond is down the back and you cant get trucks down there. I had to carry 45 bags of cement and barrow the rigth amount of crushed rock down to back aswell lol

That is an old pic though. Im still waiting for the plants to grow up and fill out. Ive also added some Black boys and the water has cleared up aswell
The pond is 15m2 and the enclosure is 64m2. The fence goes 400mm underground and alot of preperation was done to make sure they cant dig out. I had to dig most of the pond with a crow bar as isa ll in rock yay!

That is an awesome pit Strange1...

The capping on that could be a good idea too Ashman, it looks good and serves the function...also allows you more flexibility with the material you use on the walls as climbing them becomes less of an issue...

I think that is definately a pit that could be aspired to....
