Mating season started

I introduced my Olive boy to his girl today first time.
Girl is to young to mate, bit over 3 years, but I am giving her chance anyway. She is now 6 kg and I am leaving the choice up to her.
Bob told me that I can try, but fat chance to have any luck.

Anybody started male itroduction this year?

Nah Slatey I am waiting one more month to reintroduce. However having said that I also had no choice but to put one of my male Diamonds in with 2 girls Annie and Queen, but I have observed no signs of interest from either of them yet.I do think it is a bit early still.

Adam,

You normally put Diamonds together in September, the same as most Carpets. Arboreal Pythons seem to breed later than the Terestial species.

Slatey,

I put my Olives together for the first time this season last week. No action at all, not even combat from the males. I was just trying to see what would happen trying them this early, but no go. Looks like they are waiting for July like they do every year. Fussy little buggers

Well the only reason my Diamonds are together now is because I have Tennilles Backhead in one Diamonds cage and her shinglebacks in another and her spiders in another diamonds cage so they had no choice but to go together and July is the month I was referring to when I said "one more month".

Spotted diamonds are bit late with action. I think that earliest is about end of August

Does the breeding age vary from python to python or does it depend on other things eg size, type etc?

Regards Ether

Well I just came down to our herp room and found a pair of green tree frogs mating and my male diamond Stumpy is "tickling" Queen. So I will eat humble pie and say "yes" some of our herps have started to show signs of getting interested.

Ricko,

At that size you have nothing to loose by trying them this season. As they say, you have to be in it to win it. All snakes are individuals, some breed young, some breed old.

From lots of breeding records we can establish average ages and sizes for first breedings of most species. But ALWAYS remember, there are always exemptions to nearly any rule of thumb. Yours may be young breeders so give em a go.
