No experience with these things Baz, but although it is very emaciated, the scales do look very damaged, almost like a burn?
Like maybe it was stuck with it's back half exposed to the sun until it lost enough weight to get out?

Does it attempt to strike at you or show signs of pain. it looks like its been hit by a car to me . wild reptiles are tough I would leave the food for from 4 to five days as wild animals are stressing at the best of times when caught and probably wont attempt to eat for a while

Don't muck around with it!
It sounds pretty crook, you can ring Wildlife Victoria and they will take care of it or let you know where to take it.
I would take it into care but I think I'm on the opposite side of town (Melton) and I'd have to get it back for release.
It's illegal to keep injured wildlife unless you're a shelter or a registered carer.
Wildlife Victoria should be able to put you on to someone!
