hey im getting my hatchy mac in a few weeks and i am about to start on its enclosure but ive been told that i need to make it out of hmr melimine but am wondering why because the temp inside would only be about 30 at the hot end and why cant i just use normal melimine like turning a cupboard into one
any help would be greatly appreciated

mainly cuz your snake will need water and will spill the water all over the shop. Moisture + melamine = weakened and warped enclosure which can lead to escapees and/or damaged snakes.
so basically HMR is much safer.

High Moisture Resistant melamine is the only thing to use or you will end up with water swollen wood which will then go moldy and harver germs
If you end up using HMR melamine then be sure to seal the inside joints with silicon to avoid the moisture seeping through.

I'm not saying it's impossible and i'm sure there are success stories out there of such an enclosure...but i would not recommend it.
Water has a nasty habit of creeping into places. Damp areas in an enclosure, besides potentially damaging the structure and security of the enclosure, are also provide a great environment for pathogens etc.
But in my eyes its much better to be safe than save a few dollars on the enclosure only to find out that you have caused your reptile to become sick/injured or to have escaped.

Fish tanks are poor at holding heat, in saying that though it may just make your heat lamp work harder...

Any unsealed timber is asking for trouble, condensation can also become a problem depending on humidity

you can use ply as long as it's got some sort of protection (stain/varnish etc) as it too with excessive water and no protection will rot, but in saying that it would proberbly last longer than melamine. We've kept a ply out door enclosure outside now for a fair while now and there is no rot in but it will adventually so it's only for now.
