mercury vapour

just want to ask if anybody know how much heat mercury vapour lights give out.
I want to use one instead of fluro tube but i dont want much heat.
My tank is 25c without heat.
I tried a basking light 100w at one end and temp came to 50c under the light.
thanks

RE: mercury vapour

A 100W MVB will put out as much heat as any other 100W basking globe.

As i mentioned in a post last night, the temp in your enclosure will rely heavily on what it is made out of - An all glas enclosure will let the heat dissipate out of it at a faster rate, and will maintain a cooler temperature. An enclosure made out something more insulating like wood or thick plastic (like the URS vivs) will hold a much higher temperature, as the heat cannot escape as fast...

You can also take into account other factors such as vent size and location.

If you are heating your beardies (as opposed to cooling them through winter), I would aim for a basking site of around 35ºC - 40ºC.
