Mesh enclosures

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has used mesh enclosures.

I want to buy a couple and use them outside so the lads can get some natural sun.

Anybody have any experiances or thoughts?

Cheers

Jonno

Hey Jonno,
I have had problems with enclosures out of chicken wire as the pythons/lizards tend to rub their noses and damage them to easily. To overcome this I lined the inside of the wire with the soft nylon flyscreen..it solved any rubbing probs.

Thanks Deb,

I was actually meaning the Reptarium type ones, all soft mesh, not wire.

Would UV still be good when using these?

be very carefull with the frames on them as i have broken many! it does not take much. i have now made the frames out of stainless steel. as for UV they are suppose to be great but i belive that they must filter out some if not most. but still better than a fluro

yes those ones are designed for that purpose...
i use one for my young dragons when sunning them.
I havent had any nose rubs on the mesh and have a friend who uses several for assorted dragons with no probs.
I have put yearling pythons in mine for short periods for sunning too but made sure I fitted safer locks on it first as i wasnt confident with the ones that it had. Thanks for reminding me..i also put screws through the frame as I wasnt sure how strong it was.

oh and the Oz mesh ones from URS are a little bit bigger than the reptarium ones. and URS beat the retail price by about $20.
the reptarium ones are around 450mm high 450mm deep and 900mm long where as the Ozmesh are 550mm high 550mm deep and 990mm long

I have looked at these too, but have my doubts. I live in a unit and would like the ability to "sun" some of my herps without constant supervision. Most shade cloth similar to their construction cuts a fair bit of UV (so I am told).
I went to one supplier and told them I was after something to reduce UV exposure and I was told they were perfect.
I went to another supplier and said I wanted them to increase UV exposure and again I was told they were perfect????
I am now tempted to ask if I can keep goldfish in them

I have a heap of these from the Herp Shop and I swear by them, they are great. I can't speak for the ones of other manufacturers but the Herp Shop ones are just plain terrific! And affordable too

To sun my bearded dragons I pop riveted my old fly screens together to make an outdoor enclosure. It is large enough to give the lizards a run and lightweight that I can shift it around.
