Why are you using mesh? It's really not a good thing to have an enclosure made out of.
If it doesn't escape chances are it'll rub its nose raw on the wire.

I've always toyed with the idea of using the mesh they make security doors out of but can't get the local glazier (the people that make security doors) to part with any of the material. If anyone could make light covers out of this stuff, they would make a fortune - looks great and no snake could ever get to the heat source.

Whatever you use, make sure there are no sharp edges or rough spots...

What are you using it for? it will probably be ok if the snake is big enough.

So its basically your roof?
Go with one of the earlier suggestions and line the inside (snake side) with fly-wire, it might help you out.

Yeah, that stuff. You'd have to judge the heat thing for yourself, but if you put it too close it will def. burn.
You might be able to get the steel security mesh, looks the same as fly wire, but made from steel, but its probably expensive (?)
