Well I like him but in the galleries there are some really beautiful ones which are hard to beat. Zoe and expansa1 have some really nice looking snakes. Mine is still quite young though so hopefully more colur will come out over the next few months.
thanx linus! i think your little guy is gorgeous! he looks like he has really nice yellow to me!

my 21 month old diamond would be between 3-4 feet and can down a 110g rat when he wants to. he's probably a little on the small side but i'm happy to grow him slowly...plus we had a hell of a time getting the lazy bugga to eat anything bigger than a fuzzy rat for ages lol. so it sounds like he's only a bit bigger than your guy linus so he could probably take something a lot bigger than you think . i'm still shocked at what sizes my snakes can eat...i always feel like i'm gonna blow em up

No worries Zoe . Love the shots of your snake sloughing too.

Yeah I have moved mine up the ranks of mice reasonably fast but I'm certainly in no rush to get him bigger. I feed him twice a fortnight at the moment so I think that is reasonable.

How often do you give your 21mth old a rat then?

I'm only feeding mine one of those biggish weaners I mentioned earlier every couple of weeks. If they are smaller perhaps once every 8 or 9 days and the snakes seems to be happy. I think I can tell the way she lies in wait on the branch if she's starting to feel hungry - normally though I don't let her get to that stage.

I agree with Magpie about the sizes. That's probably why I haven't been too overawed in remembering what names are given to certain size rats. The weights are what I need to know primarily I think.

My Darwin is a greedy guts anyway and loves her rats I might get about to bringing a camera home this weekend and give her an early meal just to post the size comparison on here for you. I still reckon they crush the rats down to make them fit She'll think Christmas has come early this weekend

Sorry Linus. Not calling you a liar but I have spoken to a few breeders of diamonds and to say a 21 month old diamond in 90 cm long seems a bit extreme (IMO). (This is going by what I have been taught) Mine eats 3-4 fuzzy mice at a time (every week) no worries and in the time I have had him has grown heaps. I wish mine was your size Linus. I better start feeding him larger rodents and see how he goes. Mine is around 80 cm (just measured him). I got him when he was just over 50cm back on June 25 this year. I was told then he was about 6-7 months old so maybe I was fed the wrong info and maybe he was younger. What do you think Linus?? Cheers Mate...

diamond

My 1 year old childreni is 60cms long and eats pinky rats and weaner mice. Your diamond should be able to down a sub adult mouse easy or even an adult.
Get him onto the rats or adult mice and he should grow faster because of better nutritional value.

cheers

Jonny

No worries diamond python.

I am not that experienced mate (thats why I ask questions so often). I've had about 6 snakes in my life and all but the current one I kept 10 years ago.

I have mainly followed advice found on this website from the experienced guys. It seems the common theme is thay can handle a lot more than you think thay can so I guess I've always moved up a size even when it seems like it's too big.

Really my snake looks like he'd have no chance with an adult mouse but then he gulps it down no probs! I'd try a small adult mouse like Jonny said.

Cheres mate.

Whenever you feel like changing. I get virtually all of the carpets I breed to take rats as their first feeds, it saves me changing them over later or (more often) saves the person who buys it from having to change them.

I'ld like to help you but can't. My best guess is a bandicoot as there were diggings all around. But the most common mammel in the size range was the paddymelon, though I don't think it was an adult

I am going to feed my one a fuzzy rat today. It will be his biggest ever meal. Will let you all know how it goes.

Linus, I am also new into this. He is my first snake and I think I have listened to so many "experts" from pet stores that it will eventually do more harm than good. I, like yourself, use this site as my main source of knowledge - from the people who keep snakes themselves, not just the clowns from pet stores (not all pet stores I might add).... I am defrosting rat at the moment.
