Only learnt of this practice last night thanks to GARTHNFAY but i was wondering exactly what was involved in chipping snakes?? Cost associated etc?

Cost and process is the same as it would be for dogs and cats, costs around the $20 mark.

From what I've heard on the grape vine, all captive Elapids in Victoria will be required by law to be chipped. So some of us are up for a few $$$$$
The idea of chipping them doesn't worry me anyway, a few of mine already are chipped.

There was a thread on this about a week or two ago. Have a search and see if you can find it.

Thanks guys.
Didn't realise it was brought up recently.....should have done a search none the less.
I'm now of the idea it aint worth it- like people said it only works if someone takes the snake to the vet and then they would scan it, that is if they do at all.

Thanks again

I think that it is worth it....esp if you have an idea who pinched it and they say that it is theirs......you can prove by the microchip that it is not!!!

Also when you take a heap of diamonds (like we have) the vet can see who is who at the zoo and can identify by the chip who has had what done to them in previous visits!!!

I'd have to agree with you on those issues Fay, however you are still no better off should you not know who took them, and are heavily relying on the vet to do his job.

Good points, but needless to say i doubt at this stage its not worth it. Maybe if i had say a GTP or a vast collection of snakes i would probably agree with the arguements for, but not at this stage.
