Mites!

Not sure if this is the right place for this or not, but here goes: I was showing my father in law's girl friend (the kiwis) my snakes the other night and when I pulled my male boa out, he was full of mites. Damn! What a pain in the a$$. They must have come in on my albino burm. Thought I got rid of them all. That sucks because my carpet python is awaiting pick up. Last thing I need is a reputation of selling unclean animals. Oh well just have to deal with them and nuke them all. KILL KILL KILL KILL KILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I spent a an hour or so spraying everything and all the snakes with nix (lice shampoo) solution. The funny thing is that not every snake had them. Only a few of them. You can bet I'm watching the others very closely. It's really just a pain in the a$$. Oh well none of the snakes are any worse for ware and a few have just show their appreciation by eating. I really don't want to sell a guy a snake with mites.

I remember a thread here recently about using ''reptile mite eating mites'' to get rid of mites.(confused? read again slowly) Do you have such a thing in Canada?

They are called ''Hypoaspis mites'', the thread was called ''mites and stuff''. It was posted by Switch and I saw his snakes shortly after that, they were healthy and miteless.

Just wondering where these predatory mites come from?

If they are an imported species wouldn't having them here be a problem within itself?

Thanks guys. Parko that article is very interesting I'd love to find someone who's tried it. Slatey I hope so too, but the odds are against you. I'm not too worried. I'll get rid of them. I've done it before and I'll do it again.

Hi, i have recently used the hypoaspis mites and they worked extremely well. I had a new jungle that had them so i bought some and tried it out. Its been about a month now and mites have all dissapeared and the hypoaspis mites have gone too. so it worked for me, liked it a lot better than spraying them with TOD and shampoos. Apparently they feed on the mites as well as eggs and die when there are no mites left.
