Moisture in Shed Skin

Hey,

My female coastal shed her skin overnight however when I got the skin out it was really wet, is this normal? Could it mean that the skin was only very recently shed?

Cheers.

not sure, I woke up this morning and it was done, however the skin wasn't anywhere near the water dish but it is one possible explanation. thanks.

During the shedding process(Ecdysis) there is fluid built up between the old skin and the new. That's why the eye goes cloudy. This is how the layers of skin are seperated. Immediately after shedding the skin has that damp feel about it. It usually dries up reasonably quickly though.

What Greg said is right so you'll find that she had probably only just finished shedding.
Nothing to worry about, totally normal. In fact it's good that there was enough moisture to shed correctly as if there isn't then they can have problems sloughing.

I agree with Greg and Hugsta, also quite often they will defecate in the shed skin or just urinate as the skin is coming off, nothing at all to worry about either way.

Yep, most of the time skin is saturated with urine.

lol im lucky mine havent gone to the loo inside their sheds. i have been lucky enough to see them shed a few times now so i've been able to take the skin out straight away and like everyone else said, it is quite moist and kinda mooshy lol. it just means you got to it pretty soon after she finished

I actually saw (for the FIRST time!!!!! Yay!) my olive shed the other day! Great experience. I helped him a bit by holding the old skin and he just wriggled his way out of it. It was definitely very moist and slightly sticky. .... Mooshy describes it perfectly! :-)

Ha my last shed had nice fecie deposit in skin. I must be extra lucky.
I do not mind if that happened with smal snake, but the big ones spoiling my fun. I like to inspect skin after sheding.
LOL I did pass on it last time.
