|  | Regular Member | Join Date: Dec-04 Location: Perth Age/Gender: 22  | | | | extreamly high temps are important for monitors we are talking basking temps of 60-70c thus no thermostat is needed or even supports these temps........... instead you let the spot get as hot as it can and just use a timer for 12-8 hours a day |

...in saying that, I have found it all but impossible to maintain Monitor temps in a melamine enclosure...I can never keep my cool end cool. I have found that my Monitors are more enjoyable captives with a cool end down as low as the ambient temperature and a hot spot around 65 - 75*c...this can be achieved in a melamine enclosure, however, it will require a very large amount of ventilation...
...I have found large fish tanks to be most suitable for my needs...

| | Regular Member | Join Date: Jul-06 Location: mornington peninsula,vic Age: 33 | | | | aslan makes a very good point carina,if u are to use a melamine enclosure,u want alot of ventilation as monitors need a hot spot,but also cool spots to,i use a thermostat in my ridgeys enclosure, but its down the cool end so shuts out when the cool end gets to 30,usually only during hot spells over summer,as i keep them in an uninsulated tin shed so the shed temp fluctuates heaps,depending on outside weather,the thermostat gives me piece of mind if im not around to turn there heating off,but saying that,i also keep my storrs,gillens and sandys with out thermostats,but there cages are glass fishtanks so allows for no heat build up like the ridgeys wooden cage,if u are using a melamine enclosure,id reccomend using a thermostat up the cool end or at least the middle area of your cage,and adjust it to what your thermometer tells u not whats on the dial of the thermostat,as there not accurate to the temp on the dial,at least u know u have back up if your not home and the temp rises enough to over heat your monitor |
