More questions about pythons

Hi all
On sunday I will be picking up my first snake a baby captive bred SW Carpet Python. I have Built my own vivarium, heating and lights in, hide rocks and ledges, large water bowl.

Just one last question (probably not) Is it true that pythons can NOT see red light and is this the best way to view after dark ?

RE: More questions about pythons

I am pretty sure they can see red light, it is just no where near as hard on them as white light. I reckon if you want to view them at night and have the absolute minimum impact from light then use a purple light, that would be very similar to moonlight and would be more natural.

Purple lights do look better then red. The purple heat lamps I have used haven't lasted any longer then 2 days though.

Yeah the RED light i have is no problem, and its on a on/off thermo......well its still going strong after 4wks....
Any way i heard on this site somewere? that the purple Oz Brights moon light globes are rubish B4 you even purchase them cause they only last 1 day??!!! IMO they cant see the actual(red) light and it is not at al harmful to them in anyway!(even if they can see the light), they sence the heat emmiting from the light when its on. (but get used to it) IMO. Besides it clearly says on the box will not harm snakes!!! So if they harmed my snake i would take some serious action.... just my 2sence and MO.
 Cheers.

I use the purple ones from herpshop.com and they generally last about 3-4 months (I've got the odd one here still going strong after 6 months). They're about 9 bucks each I think. Just thought it might be worth mentioning... apparently urs had a bad batch of their purple globes (or so I was told by animal attraction). I bought 3, all of which blew within 2 days. The replacement 3 also blew within three days. But the ones from the herpshop are fine As for their black nite ceramic heat emitters, I was sceptic at first, with them only being 38 bucks, but i've had a few running for about a year now, without any issues (all my lights/ceramics are on thermos with no dimmers etc)

Cheers,
Aaron.

RE: Re: RE: More questions about pythons

If u get a dimmer thermo the globes generally last longer.

The globes aren’t designed to go on/off all the time
