multivitamins

who uses multivitamins as a suppliment? i used to use (probably still will) rep-cal calcium with vit d once a month with my snake, and most of the time on crix for my pygmy beardies and prickly gecko. now i have herptivite, should i just rotate them now, used one or the other as often as before? more often? what does any ones else do? how do you rate this product?

Hi Renagade,

You will definitely need to alternate use and not combine the two (you may already know) since the calcium binds and becomes useless.

I suggest the multi once per week for juveniles and once a fortnight for adult dragons.

Well I'm sure they'll appreciate the multi then. Probably wouldn't hurt once per week at that age but make it a light dusting.

Hetty, I said 'bind' but probably not the best reference. . .

As stated by Rep-Cal -

". . . If we premixed the products, the "beadlets" of beta carotene in Herptivite may possibly be damaged during manufacturing by the calcium in Rep-Cal."

However, I noticed that they said it's fine to mix just prior to feeding. My mistake, although I still only recommend the Multi once a week or fortnight by itself - since the herp should receive enough calcium from other feedings. It's important not to over-supplement either, especially calcium, which can lead to Hypercalcemia.
