Tiles? I have no idea where you pulled that concept from - I presume an American Beardie site...? possibly the same one you got your information regarding Sandfire locality Ackies...?
It is irresponsible for you to be offering terrible advice to legitimate questions...please think before you type in the future...

i asked a question, thank you for answering it australis.
Aslan, i wasnt offerign advice, i was sharing my 'plans' i didnt say, this is the best way.
other than tile, which i stated i also wanted an area of sand or other diggign substrate, which i was thinking a clay and sand mix. not got my midn set on it. there shouldnt be a kicking fit about papertowel over newpaper whislt its only just a hatchling at 12cm.
im welcoming your suggestions and advice. i AM new at monitors, and i AM still learning.
i am well aware, a monitor is very different to a beardie. theres no need to catagorise me. |

ackies dont need tiles for thier feeding area in the wild they live in rocks and sand which is what you should be providing in captivity for them

most of the ridge tailed care sheets ive come across dont mention locality all too much over the plane identification between yellows and reds unfortunately. i had a look throught the TAFE library today, they didnt have much as expected.

I have noticed with young Ackies as well as young Gillens that if the prey item is too small they will show little interest - my Gillens are about 5 or 6cm long and are eating the largest 'Medium' crickets I can find. They are bigger than their heads, they show little interest in smaller ones...

Ackies are simple, you learn by watching them - if they're not eating or inactive, turn up the heat...if they appear sick, turn up the heat...basically, turn up the heat...
