Opinions are like.... something or other... everyone has one... apparently you do too!
can't see why you think it was worthless though - it contained many truths and most certainly didn't diss your ideas.
I think you will find most people defrost their rats in a similar fashion to mine, aslans and many of the huge breeders. I guess some may also choose your way. Both are ok I am sure, I am just saying, and repeating apparently, it's ok - I just thought some of the information you have gathered may be incorrect. It's only fair to accept a small amount of constructive criticism. The results of which can do you no harm.
So sorry to force my pointless and worthless opinion on you - but is it really an opinion or was I just restating the facts? |

The problem with 'nasties' is the number of them on the food item when it is offered to your snake. Nasties can live at 4 deg. C, but have trouble reproducing/growing what ever term floats your boat.
Freezing and defrosting is only a 'control' of the nasties and it would depend on how many were originally on/in the item. ie if the rat had just 2 of a problem causing nasie on/in it and it doubled every 2min for half an hour (in hot water for example) you would have 131072 at the end. What would happen if you started with 10, 20 or 1000. The key to food prep is to keep the food in of the 'Danger Zone' - 6deg c - 60 deg c for the least amount of time. I'd say that most peoples approaches are good, but never leave a food item out overnight to defrost on the bench, for a Snake, Human, Dog whatever.

And For All The Other Disagreements Lets Face It When You Break Down The Pros And Cons We All Know The Safest Way Is Frozen To Warm Water. |

| | | | think about this....using an esky with a heat element would work alot better then a tub....less chance of melting the thing....a way to insure that it says hot if the heat fails for some reason use an aluminum inner lining would insure the water to stay warm as it would be like a thermal sheeting to it i mean steel dose not cool down fast but yet again this is just an idea |

Do you not realise that if a snake could not tolerate a few nasties they would have not become one of the best adapted and wide spread species of animal in the world?
Who defrosts mice in a fridge overnight? What a waste of time, when throwing them in a sandwich bag, with hot water will defrost it in 1 minute, and heat it to about 40 degrees. |

I have had plenty of wild caught elapids pass through on the way to relocation that will quite happily pig out on dead rats or mice, which might suggest they also take already dead in the wild along with the "nasties" |
