| | | my snakes never bathe
is this weird??
of all our serpents, some young, some old, some big and some small.... all provided with adequate watering dishes, i have never once seen any of them bathe, nor seen evidence of it....
we used to use breeders choice pellets, but did notice a drop in the humidity over time, and 2 snakes began to have irregular sheds, and upon reading that the breeders choice can suck up too much moiture, we changed back to good ole paper, treated the 2 animals with some shed eze, and hey presto back to full sheds, but even in their time of dryness, no bathing...
i have been to pet shops and seen many pics of snakes happily immersing themselves, and i just wondered if its only ours that dont like to bathe?
thanks

this is dependant on the species and the humidity. I find that my daimonds are never in their bowl. but the darwins are in and out all the time.
Even though the darwins have a decent amount of humidity

My pet ones never bathe either, but find the wild rescues do, mostly due to mites, and also (i think) because they feel safe there, in the wild standing water would be murky and they would be all but invisible. my last rescue soaked for 2 weeks, only sticking his nose out to breath and then disappearing again, he had quite bad mites tho.

I thought my childreni never did but have recently seen him at night in a dark room when the heatlamp kicks in with half his body in the tank and his head going around under the water checking the bowl out.

slothhead: got darwins, jungles, brissy, bredli, proserpine.... heheh none of them ever hop in... though my darwin boy loves to play in the damp part of the yard when he is out, like where i have recently watered, he still never soaks.
pythoness: hmm that certainly makes a lot of sense
junglepython2: not worried mate.... i know they are all good... just as our collection grows i find it weird that we still dont own any that like a good bath!

Perhaps they are French or British? Apparently they don't bathe!!
Some snakes like to others don't, just got to catch them in the act like when they are drinking.

Noticed that myself and have gone back to newspaper.
My Darwin spent most of the day last Saturday taking a dip, it's more common that my waters are in their bowls every week to fortnight, but not so my Darwin.

My darling diamond girl, The Curious Cat, never ever ever bathed. And then one day she went into her waterbowl... and stayed there for two weeks! Seeing as this was so unusual I naturally went into a huge panic and Phoned A Friend, who told me exactly what I would have said to anyone who phoned me with the same question, "relax! Provided she doesn't have mites she's just hangin' out there for fun". (Thanks Wrasse )
She didn't have mites. I kept topping up the water, she came out when she was ready and has not returned since. Sometimes they just do the damndest things!
