Need glass track - anybody?

Hi,

I've built a snake enclosure out of 16mm melamine to the exact same spec as one we bought from Victorian Reptiles in Hoppers Crossing.
The issue we face is finding the track for the glass. We bought 2 pieces of 4mm thick (the original was 3.5) but we can only find 5mm track in Magnet Mart or Bunnings (we're in the ACT).
the double track for the 5mm glass overhangs the 16mm melamine way too much, plus the glass will move around too much, whereas the one provided on our original box had perfectly fitting plastic tracks. We asked around at all the glass shops we could find, including the one we bought the glass from, but no matter how well we describe it they have no idea what we want. I've attached a picture of what we're after, anyone know where to get it for 4mm glass?

Thanks,

Steve York

I have only seen it in 5 or 6mm - 4mm glass is fine and I use it on my smaller enclosures.

do a google search for "icon plastics" and then find the glass tracks in the building moldings section. TR25 and 26 is for 4mm glass. There is a find a dealer function available which should help you find what you are after.

Hi
Check your local glazier, he will have or should be able to get the right stuff.
You will find will be cheaper than bunnings or magnet mart and such.

Sorry didnt read your post properly.
I worked at BRIANS AUTOSCREENS AND GLASS in Goulburn. I built a frog tank and used a plastic double track that held 4mm glass perfectly. If your over that way, check them out. and tell them Danny sent you.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for the replies, I found some 4mm track
The question now is how do you attach it?
We were thinking of super glue, but I was wondering if there's any problems with fumes, like there can be with certain paints.

Can anyone recommend an adhesive?

Thanks,

Steve

I had glass cut over the last week for four cages and originally when I phoned up I intended on ordering 4mm glass with the track to suit but the glazier only had 5mm track so after enquiring about the price difference between 4mm and 5mm glass I am very happy to have gone for the 5mm as it is only around $10.00 more per meter.

I have also used 16mm melamine but the 5mm track I believe measures 18mm so there is some overhang on the inside of the enclosure but it is barely noticeable.

The main problem I encountered is the fumes after glueing the track down, even after 7 days I am still suspect about the smell. I have tried 2 different products this week and even had a lady at Bunnings call Selleys to get advice and even they were stumped.

I did notice in Bunnings that there was a Liquid Nails that specified Low Odour but I haven't tried it. The last thing I want to do is hand my snakes a can of spray paint and a plastic bag

I've always used small screws for the top track and small nail tacks on the bottom track. The track for the bottom has small holes in the centre to put the tacks. (No glue)
