New... Now what should i get???

hey everyone my name is mike, 17 yrs old, living in sydney around nrth shore. i lived in sth afrcia since i was 12 and ive had almost pretty every pet u can think of BESIDES REPTILES eventhough i have always loved them (mainly the mum not letting one in the house sorta thing) thats why when an exhabition came to my school a while back, it re-ignited my desire for a reptile...and this time it can happen! i am starting HSC very soon and so a very demanding snake is not what im after. i also have a few different species of african cichlids which im breeding atm. so far ive been looking up all the different species and i narrowed it down to a few, mainly the childrens, coastal, murray darling and Eastern small-blotched pythons. after more consideration i eliminated the coastal as i think theyl grow too big for my likeing...aparently 8-9ft?? and then also the childrens as ive found it to bevery common and i wanted somthing a bit different. so pretty much ive nailed it down to the Murray Darling Inland and the Eastern Small-Blotched.

Now i want ur guys n grls opinions on what u all think would do best with me??? i love the patterns on both snakes but im leaning for towards the murray but im concerned about its size as im after a smallish snake (3-6ft)...how big do murrays get???

so yeah any help on this decision would be great

cheers, cheazy

Athertons are good mid size snake. They max out around the six feet mark, but have a bit more girth on them. Also the colours and patterns are alot more varied.IMO

What fish do you breed?

I used to breed Tanganyka cichlids.

I had to wait 11 years to be alowed a snake in the house. First I had to move out of home and then my boyfriend (now Husband) didn't' like the idea either.
But now I have one.

Welcome

Go the stimson, good handlers, and most won't make it over a meter. Easy to keep and you don't need a large enclosure to keep them.

RE: New... Now what should i get???

i breed several species of malawians. also if you anyone knows any good breeders of easterns and MD's in Sydney i would very much appretiate some details. to tell the truth the first one i loved was the jungle pythons...i think they look amazing but theyre bit out of my price range, so il have to setle for less expensive, but then again so far pretty much every snake ive seen looks beautiful so yeah lol i think im startin to catch this virus that all u have!

If you dont have much space, or just want a small snake I would get a Stimpson. Look out for one with nice markings and colour and they are a pretty nice looking animal.

RE: Re: RE: New... Now what should i get???

in my opinion of sexes there is no difrence (teperment wise or anything like that) but if you only get one of that species i would be more enclined to get a female as then later on if you decide you want to breed most snakes the male can be a little younger and still be able to breed where as the female should be of certain size! (if you get what i am saying) so if you have a female that is older and you decide on breeding you don't have to wait for the female to get to full size (to breed) and can get a younger male! JMO
