We were checking out the new pet shop at the Logan Hyperdome the other day. It stocks quite a range of reptiles and accessories. Unfortunately it appears to have followed in the footsteps of the typical petshop with regards to their husbandry. Lewy commented to the worker fellow about how small his spotty babies were compared to ours. The fellow went on to say how his babies are only fed once a week compared to ours which are fed every 5 ish days. Fair enough (though they were tiny). Then he commented how their feeding history was on top of the container and pointed out that the little fellow we were looking at had been force fed and how it'll be right now as they always feed well once they've had some food forced into them. We had a bit of a read of this history and it listed afew normal feeds followed by a couple of force feeds. Go figure. I can only put it down to the breeder giving it the first feeds then the pet shop force feeding it. Not only was that strange but when we checked the dates we noticed that its first force feeding was 4 days after a normal feed, then the next feed (forced) was about 6 weeks later. The worst part is there were quite afew snakes with weird feeding histories. One even had 'fish' listed as one of the feedings. Anyone else heard of feeding hatchies on fish? Sounds weird. I think these stressed little snakes need a quiet back room till they get feeding.

I also have to add how annoyed I was to see little puppies in a floating glass pen in the middle of the store chewing on the corner of a short glass partition in the pen. Surely they could have grabbed a chew toy off the shelf for them.

Sue
