Before I built the pits, we did tests with fence panels and finding where the sun would hit throughout different times of the year. There is always a good degree of shadow cast on the left side of the pits as you look at them, even through summer. This is why the ponds are to the left - in the coolest spots. Although the fencing will heat up, it isn't that bad (as we tested it) and the ponds will be used extensively by the Lacies I think. The heathies will have extra logs and they can also hide behind the waterfall which is nice and cool. I will mist / hose the enclosures on the hot summer days to raise humidity / drop the temps.

You sure have got a great collection of monitors there Simon.
Maybe you could do a fact sheet on pit construction and costs etc. I am sure alot with find it useful, as not everyone will see this thread.

What's not shown is the colourbond fencing I'm attaching to one corner in each pit to add extra cover for rainy periods - especially for days like today up here. While the logs offer good protection, I'm not quite happy with the amount of cover they give. The extra cover should be in by the weekend.
And Slatey, don't have a whole lot of room - just manage to squeeze as much in as possible :-)
