Just got my first beardie. (s)he is sooo cute...

Just got one question - (s)he (baxter - as named by daughter) has not pooped today - how often wuold a well feeding young beardie normally be expected to poo?

If the temperature is right (40 basking spot) and the food item not too big - you would expect to see around
3 or 4 poos per day
Put the little guy in a tepid (not hot) shallow bath for 5 minutes and he should poo for you - watch that he doesn't drown
Hope this helps
Sandee

Thanks guys - I am hoping that the stress of movement was enough to bung him up a bit - not to mention the storm this evening - he was definitely aware and not happy about it - i was trying to manage kids and dogs and washing on the line... but he was hopping about a bit.

anyway - picked him up at about 11am and fed him some dandelions when he emerged ) i just opened the cardboard box he was in inside a click clack (the full enclosure is not ready).

about 1 i fed him a cricket that went down in about 1/2 a millisecond so i fed him 4 more about 1/2 an hour later and it was only that they were dusted trying to sit very still against newspaper that they lasted about 2 minutes ...

anyway - there were supposed to be pics wit the first post but i must have stufed up something - i will try again.

He is SOOOOO cute - He will have a full salad ( grated carrot, spinach and mustard greens) as well as the remaining crickets tomorrow morning.

I have to read the thread on creating crickets otherwise i will have to sell a kidney to grow him at this rate ...

pics to (hopefully) follow...

OK - here are some pics (hopefully)

the click clack just had a uv on today (25 just a minute ago above the lid) I put the lid on as we have a cat and i wanted to reduce the heat loss - the lid has about 10 1/4 inch holes in.

the work in progress (hopefully finished tuesday) enclosure - ( the colour looked so subtle in the shop but it just looks sooo 50s in real life...

We have a lovely dragons head looking piece of wood ( I can't belive the prices thay charge for wood!!) which will be bleached and rinsed and rinsed ... as well as branches through the holes and a 50W basking light will be in the finished enclosure.

Which leaves the question - shall i put a retainer at the front and fill the bottom inch or 2 with sand?

Anyway - looking forward to poops galore tomorrow

Nothing is set in stone with reptiles there's always exceptions

But if they don't poo - they die

To me it is more important for them to poo than to eat
They must process the food item and get rid of the excess
otherwise their tiny intestines get blockages and when that happens you will be lucky to save them
My humble opinion only

YOUR HATCHIE IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!
Habitat is looking great.........glad you got uv,sorry- i do tend to act to quickly....before relivent info is said
babies tend to go down hill quick without uv!
Have you got a heat light? as that might have been problem with no movements!
They have to heat up to 28* to properly digest food
