Newbe coastal has red belly / mites

I have 5 ft , 4 yr old coastal. bought t 12 weeks ago ,privately, hasnt eaten since..was all o kuntil i got another one ( this time great eater) and then found 1st one had mites.. bleached, sprayed etc and now ( think ) i have them under control. But , the mites seem to have gone, but it has developed a pinkinh belly only in the top half of the belly scales,, doesnt seem ot be spreading since i soaked it in tub of water and washed it with soap and water...its skin though loks 'unusual' ..when it coils up the skin on the inside of the coil 'puckers' and is not smooth around the internal radius..I am really concerned re what to do , i am aprehensive re the reptile verts as i have heard that they arent that good. Happy to go but would like some help if you can ,,thanks

Whereabouts are you located? There are some awesome herp vets in Australia and we can point you in the right direction. A picture of the affected area would also be a huge help.

When you say bleached and sprayed, what do you mean exactly?

Sounds like an upcoming shed.. Some snakes go pink on the belly, and the loose skin is a sign too.. Dull colours?

when i first discovered the mitess i made up a 50/ 50 bleach mixture and scrubbed the enclosure with it ,i then used Top of descent as a spray and also sprayed the snake ..after a few more spray applications the mites seem to have gone ,,no evidence inthe wate bowl..fingers crossed

Try the UQ vet surgery... A few of the fifth years at the moment have an interest in reptiles... Don't take him straight away. Try calling them and asking.

Yes it can.

Judging by the colour you describe, it could very well be scale rot. A pic will make it much easier to identify.

If she has had mites they will shed after it to try and get rid of them(they think they do) but they hide in between the scales and in the eyes.

It looks like this and will kill the snake if left untreated. If caught early however, it can be treated.
