microclimate thermostats are simple and easy to fit. if you can thread the probe thru a small hole and plug in a plug, your all set!
pet shop guys are notorious for not having a clue. lol
check out this site for microclimate. http://www.goulburnvalleyreptilesupp...croclimate.htm |

All done! I have now ordered a micro climate just so I can sleep at night!!!
now I have adjusted AGAIN my thermostat I have an ambient temp of 27, cool end is 22 BUT the basking globe is off so no hot spot!! Im glad the slate tile holds some heat, abit like a heat mat I persume. In larger cages do some people use a heat mat/cords on the floor under the substrate? Just wondering if I will need to include it in the new cage. Im hoping to have roughly a 4foot by 4 foot (or so) cage.

Yep some do use a heatmat or cord etc along with a basking globe.
Alternately you could provide a nice flat rock (stable so the snake cant burrow under) and put under the globe. It will be warmed and retain some heat well after the globe goes off allowing your snake to get some nice belly heat.
Snakes take advantage of sun warmed rocks in the wild in much the same way. This would save you some power.
Dont worry too much, as long as there is a nice gradient and the snake can move around to experience different temps all should be well.
Just a note, be sure to design the new cage with a covering around the bulb (cage) to prevent burns. You will pick it all up as you go along and find what works best for you. The vast array of differing opinions and methods can be daunting at first, but provided you have the basics you shouldnt go too far wrong. Have fun and post some pics of your new pet soon |

Thanks alot. I have the slate tile in at the moment and solomon loves to sit there so i think its warm enough while the light is out. I may do the same thing in the new tank.
Ill post some pics once I work out how to make them smaller!
Thanks again everyone for all your help!
