I have a 2.5 yo female Bredli and since i bought her i have always kept her night heat the same as during the day (using a ceramic globe) and have not cooled her for any of the winters( I realise this was probably not good practice but i was told that she didnt need to be cooled unless she was going to be bred when i purchased her and never planned on doing so...). However i was thinking that maybe i could get a mate for her and breed them at the end of next year. I am planing on getting her a new enclosure and was wondering what the general consensus was with providing night time heating and whether it is required. Any info would be appreciated.

We don't generally give ours any heat overnight regardless of if we are breeding or not, however if it is an extra cool night (as we live in a valley) or they have just eaten we do give them some heat but gennerally we don't heat them overnight.
Good Luck

OK lets say your using a 100W globe - change that to a 50W and run the lights on a timer so it turns off at a set time. You may also only want put the mate in the enclosure at the start of the breeding season. JMO

"OK lets say your using a 100W globe - change that to a 50W"
Do you mean change it from 100 Watt to 50 at the start of winter? So that it is noticably cooler than summer.
"run the lights on a timer so it turns off at a set time"
So no heating at night then?
"You may also only put the mate in the enclosure at the start of the breeding season."
I agree totally, im planning on getting two new setups.

I have tried this non-heating, and even in Cairns my coastal has stopped eating completely and goes psychotic if he sees food. He's too young to be bred just yet, so I think the best thing for him is to get heat.
I guess his pscyhotic behaviour is because a feed could kill him (et al magpie 2007).
I am going to experiment and heat him - and see if it makes a difference.

Daytime temps are around 30'C night time temps around 23'C (maybe as low as 21'C on a very cold night).
Have begun using a hot water bottle and he sits as close to it as possible, so it's definitely heating he's missing.

Hmm my Microvclimate B1ME is having troubles with its night cycle in that it always leaves the heat on flat stick or it doesnt run at all so i've left it off and havent had any ill effects on my 1.5yr old bredli.
