Smile Nite glow globes

Hi All,

I'm a newbie and I have just purchased a MD ( for my son) due to pick up in a couple of weeks.
So I've been rumaging through all the threads on this great site!

I'm building a standard 3 foot encloser with a standard Thermostat (the one that goes uoto 35Deg) and two Ceramic ES sockets. I thought I would set it all up with the two globes and then check the Temp gradients before I go out and spend more Money on a Heat matt in addition.
I have been recommended Night glow globes from pales. Has anyone had any experiences with these, I did see one threat that the person suggested that "they suck with a thermostat" as they are prone to blowing. So I guess I'm thinking 24 bucks for 2 of them ??? or should I just go with some blue globes. ( I couldn't go with a Mico climate as I am on a limited budget)
Any thoughts, experiences or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks Jason

Well, I'm not having too much fun with red infared spot globes at the moment (I posted a thread about this before I read this one from you) so I can't recommend them personally..............

I've had one of my red infrared globe's for about 9months now it's on 24/7 and i achieve the temp's i need really well without a thermostat its a 75watt globe in a 2foot deep x 2foot high x 4 foot long and it has a nice warm end of about 31 and a cool end down at about 25, If your from Sydney go check out Sydney Reptile Supplie's at Parramatta on Hunter st i believe ( i go there so ofton i forget the address i get there by instinct i think lol) they can be contacted on 9635 0002 there brilliant in there for advice id never go any where else, And the best thing is they dont sell you a whole heap of junk you don't need, If Gregory is on then you don't have to worry as he will go above and beyond to help you out...

I have one of the purple Oz Moon bulbs-75W, they are a purple colour and to be honest are not very bright at all. I am going to try some of the blue bulbs from Syd reptile supplies as apparently they are a lot brighter. As far as I know they aren't infra red.

The infra-red red bulbs are super bright too as I am told, but there is a bit of thought that maybe some snakes can see a certain spectrum of light from those bulbs as some won't come out at night when they are on.

Night Globes

Yeah I've heard that the infer red are a little brighter, thats sort of why I have headed for the Night Globes. Oh well I guess I will check em out and see how well they go.
Hay Kiwicam, what type of snake have you got.

welcome mate. i use the blue party globes which seem to work really well. i tried the infra red but they seemed to heat up the substrate and thermometer (which i used for callibrating the thermostat) but not the ambient temp. so that the enclosure felt cooler with the infra reds than with the blue party globes. not sure if this is just me who has found this though cos others seem to like them.

Thanks Bredi84,

The breeder I purchased the MD off used those so I figure I'll buy a couple and see hole they go with some testing. I was just a little worried that the Night globes at $14 ea would blow when using a thermostat.

Cheers thanks for you input.

It's interesting to see people getting frustrated with the infra-red globes, i think they are pretty decent. Maybe it's cause my enclosure is outdoors or maybe i just got a good globe  anywho if your in sydney and your around the peakhurst area drop us a line at Petcare Direct, located at 91 boundary Rd.

Hi Jungle,

If you are going to use the standard on/off thermostat, then I would advise that you use a ceramic globe, they don't blow as easily as the standard globes.

Let me know if I can do anything to help you out within your budget.

Thanks Neil

I dont think i have had experience with night glow globes, i dont know what they r though so maybe i have without reading the packages. I find ceramic globes just easier i know they might be more expencive but they rarely blow even with a thermostat. They dont light up the enclosure at night obviously but i dont really wnat that becaus all my enclosures are in my bedroom.

Yeah I wasn't sure if you could use Ceramic Globes. I like the idea of having non light emitting (Spelling??) globes. How much are they normally.
