Fantastic idea.
Plenty of other alternatives to heating enclosures, some may cost more money but if it helps to reduce our impact on the green house gas emisions Im all for it.

"Incandescent bulbs waste up to 95 per cent of the energy they use, mainly in the form of heat." thats what we want. I think they're here to stay |

They are already replacing the standard light globe with the new fluorescent type in NSW along with water saving shower heads.

But light bulbs aren't our major problem. Although changing every light bulb from incandescent to energy efficient is a saving... The biggest waster is new technology... not old technology.
New plasma and LCD screens use more electricity than the standard CRT (I was suprised by this stat). New computers are much gruntier in wattage than the older ones, Ceiling fans, Air Con, Fridges... all getting bigger, faster colder...
The list goes on - our energy crisis is but only beginning, and we're entering an era where what ever we use will begin to be available for rich people or new power plants... Nuclear Fission here we come! |

54.6% - Black Coal
29.3% - Brown Coal
10.7% - Renewables (Hydro, Wind etc)
5.1% - Gas
0.3% - Oil

I just talked to a teacher friend who suggested that everywhere from Sydney to the FNQ should have solar water heating installed (at usual costage of current electricity).
Wind and solar generators in the central areas (sorry, not sure of where the wind is, but there's loads of land for solar).
And one that I am going to add - when they build that wonderful river system from tulley to the dry arid interior of Qld and SA they should use some of that slope to generate electrcity too!
The latter did not involve much thinking process sorry! |
