Hey y'all,
I have a question:
Having never imported any animals into NSW yet, i have a question for the more experienced re: permit applications. Looking at the application form, it says that i need to provide details of the export permit (I'm assuming a permit number?) from the person interstate from whom i am importing from. My question is this: is this really necessary? Can i just apply with their details (keepers license and personal details)? or do i first need to supply them with my details and then wait for them to obtain their permit, then give me their details from that so that i can apply for mine (gasps for air ).
Looking at this page, under heading number 3. It all sounds very confusing...
Could someone please enlighten me?

Ask the seller for their license details so you can send in the permit application, it will take a few days then you can ring nswpw or whatever they called now, and they will give you your import permit number over the phone, thats all u need to go ahead. After you receive the animal you will get an export permit or copy of, with it. nswpw will send you another form, on this form you put the sellers license details and the number off the export permit that came with it. hope that helps
If still confused, just call them at hurstville and they will put you straight, there pretty helpful and easygoing. Cheers..

Sounds like they need to get their export permit in order before you can get your import permit in order.

I always have to supply the export permit number with my applications. Some people get away with just stating To Be Advised. When you receive your Import permit from NPWS you also get a return sheet that must be returned to NPWS a few days after you receive your animal. You have to write the export No on this page as well.

yup biguy, thats the 2nd form they send you, comes with your import permit. you have seven days to fill and return it i think. Usually the animal/s arrive well befor you get that anyway(they will give you the import number on the phone) so u take the export number that comes with the animal/s and put it on that form.

I have imported a number of times, I have always faxed/sent off the form, rang and got an import permit number, and added the export details to the return form.
That simple!

Ben,
All of the people above have stated correct methods, I'll tell you what I do in sequence to break it down for you :-)
(1) Fill in Import Application - include Sellers licence details but not Seller's export licence number.
(2) Send to NPWS with fee
(3) Phone NPWS 3 or 4 days later (02) 9585 6537 and get your import permit number
(4) Contact seller and inform them that import has been approved
(5) When NPWS send out the pink form, THEN fill out with all licence details of both parties AND seller's export number.
This is simply what I do, so there are different methods. There is no 1 right way. For example, QLD licencees simply fill out a Movement Advice sheet which they purchase for a few dollars. This has the number on it, so they can generally tell you straight away. On the other hand, in South Australia, they need to apply for a number and this takes between 1 and 4 days.
