My olives are housed in a 8 x 2.5 x 2 enclosure and i use a sandy colour astro turf in the enclosure. I have the astro turf cut into 4 tile size pieces and just replace the soiled ones with reserves that I have. I have been using astro turf for about 6 months and am getting sick of having scrub and disenfect all of the time, I'll pobably change back to butchers paper.

A lot has changed since this pic was taken. The pebbles are now on the opposite side under the heat source. I thought that made more sense as the pebbles retain the heat.

The astro turf has been great. Some here warn against it, but we have found absolutely no issues with it. We make sure that she is fed on the turf so that no pebbles get stuck to the food. We had our olive looked at the other day by a respected industry person, and she is in superb condition.

The enclosure now sits atop a matching cabinet and more branches have been added which lead up to two ledges where she love to sit.

I use 'Forest Gold eucalyptus mulch' from Mitre 10 (probably sell it at Bunning too) I have used it for about 3 years with my jungle and olive and havent had any problems with it. I just spread it out on a tarp for a day or 2 and let it dry and to get most of the dust out. Looks great too!

marine carpet and astro turf can cause cloaca infections, ive seen it happen many times, for this reason i would never use it.
Newspaper or butchers paper is by far the best substraight to use for many many reasons, ie its so much more hygenic, if enough layers are used it makes a perfect hide, also if enough layers are used gravid females will almost always lay under the paper instead of nesting boxes, which tells us it is a very favoured place for them to be.
