haven't got an outdoor setup but you can buy snake mesh, is 5mm2 mesh from memory, i used it across my aviary over normal chicken wire and worked a treat, never had the snakes get in anyway and they are always on the roof of the aviary.
only about 10-12 bucks for a 10m roll from memory
