Outdoor enclosures

In the last 12 months I have been trying to figure out wether or not to do an outdoor enclosure for my Diamonds.
I have been taking temps and weather conditions for a while but am still sceptical about Victorias summer periods. I have had contact with serpentongue after the thread that he posted on here, and might I add, what a great help he has been and has given a great out;look as to where and what I might be doing.
My question is: Are there any other Victorian keepers that have got an outdoor enclosure for their pythons?
If there is can they forward some pro's and con's if they can?
Also other pics and info would be welcome, from anyone would be great.

Thanks Rob

Rob I can think of at least three off the top of my head but for obvious reasons I will not be naming them or their locations.

They all report that they thrive. Some even have them in quite exposed rural areas.

All say it is definitely the way to go and have breeding success.

If I had diamonds that is the way I would be setting them up.

Thanks for that, I don't want exact local but what region are they in? Just so I can compare the temps/weather conditions to our area here.

Hi Rob,

I'm hardly an experienced herper and have only had my two Diamond Pythons (3yo,1yo) for two and one year respectively, but I can't see why it should be a problem myself. I think if you take all the proper precautions by making sure that there is a cool enough section for it/them to go, then it should only serve to benefit.

Larger and higher roaming space, natural UV light, a pond big enough to fully soak - all sounds good to me. And if the forecasts are too hot, you can always bring the snake(s) inside ... maybe even for all February.

I live in Melbourne and am currently looking for a suitable aviary on ebay, etc. It's not that easy to find medium size ones that don't have the roof entirely covered. I'm also trying to work out to make a natural looking hide that is insulated.

Cheers,
Nic

Hey Rob,

Why are you unsure about the Victorian summers? Do you think it will be too hot for them? We get 38+ degree days here quite often, as well as a couple of 40+ degree days each summer. As long as you provide some cool areas in the cage (as described very well by ST and PJ recently) you shouldn't have too many problems.

Brendon

Thanks MrBrendon, yeh I am worried about the high temps mid to high 30's and also a fair few 40's thrown in just for the hell of it. They go from Oct until when ever they decide to stop which is about "who knows now days hey?"
IMO there is alot of factors to take into place such as where we are located, it is flat country so the humidity is different to say a place where it is hilly. Also flat = more winds compared to the later aea, and damn hot winds to boot. Rural compared to residential for pretty much the same reason, get my drift.
I don't have all the answers yet and would like more opinions to ease my over functional brain,or in simple terms, the best for my snakes.

p.s if that comes across to abrupt, rude or otherwise that's to bad it's the alcohol.
