Polystyrene Foam

I have heard you can use polystyrene foam to make fake rocks, But if you put it under the heat lamp will it melt? and will a beardie try to eat it?

Not a great idea, they will scratch it to pieces and it does melt very easily.

You make the basic rock shape out of the polystyrene and then you coat it with something that goes off hard, some people use concrete in bigger cages.

Do a google search on Taxidermy/fake rocks. These guys build all sorts of exhibits that look fantastic. There are a few how to articles floating around. Taxidermynet.com has a forum section you could look in.

You can paint it with Bondall (and mix some colour oxides with it for some colour, all of which you can get from any hardware store) and it is fine. I think in Wiki you will find instructions on how to make fake rock walls. The same thing would apply for fake rocks. It's quite a simple process.

There's the link. Do a search though, there is a couple of threads with different methods.

i have seen a thread on using expanding foam for back grounds and then covering with contact adheasive and sand. apparently not toxic, and would possibly be ok for a snake, but i don't know about a beardie, they may destroy that too
