they just grow out tanks?
| Hornet, I think you mean they just outgrow tanks? 2 of the adult turtles in the 4 foot tanks got fungus and one got some shell rot before the winter so were brought inside to treat. By the time they were better it was too cold to put them outside again, so they are stuck in the tanks for the next few months. Another adult is prone to infections and the vet therefore advised she not be allowed to hibernate, hence she is also inside for the winter.

I brought one of our turtles in for the winter the year before last because she was not well. She was kept in quite a small (2 foot) tank half basking location and half water. The water needed to be changed almost every day but she has thrived since not hibernating for a year.

reptizzle, a question on lighting (as I'm a newbie), it looks like you have 3 basking lamps (i'm assuming as there's several spots for the turtles to bask) and it looked like 2 smaller uv lights. How much uv light is needed, i.e. I have a 4ft and was thinking of getting saya 2ft or 18" inch light so it went across one half of the tank with the basking area on the opposite side. Would this be ok?

Hi pierced soul (and welcome !
yes the three hangging lights are just spot lights to provide heat.. i only have a 2 foot uv- fluro on one of the basking spots, this is a 6ft tank. You need to have the uv light directly over the basking spot for it to be of any benefit to your turtles, glass will also filter out the uv light so this has to be accounted for aswell.
in my opinion i prefer to give my turtles daily access to unfiltered sunlight to provide them with their required uv.

. | i've set up a 4ft tank and it's cycling atm. I plan on having basking spots at either ends of the tank with a 4ft NEC blacklight going across the tank. I realise that the light wont penetrate over the glass tank bracket but I figure with the amount of UV going over the rest of the tank things should be fine
